John Davidson Archaeologist/Graphics Specialist |

Mr. Davidson is an experienced archaeologist who has worked on archaeological surveys, site assessments and data recovery excavations, as well as underwater excavations. He has also catalogued artifacts, assisted in faunal identification and completed artifact drawings. In addition to his archaeological expertise, Mr. Davidson has developed expertise in computer graphics, particularly AutoCad, and computer data management. Mr. Davidson serves as a field supervisor on archaeological projects, conducts artifact analyses and completes most of SouthArc's graphics. He also assists in preparation of technical reports and serves as equipment manager.

The principals of SouthArc are fully certified members of the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA), the Florida Archaeological Council (FAC) and the Council of South Carolina Professional Archaeologists (COSCAPA). Martin F. Dickinson, M.A., RPA President |

Mr. Dickinson has extensive experience in coordination, management and implementation of all phases of cultural resource management in the southeastern U.S. He has served as principal investigator for projects in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Antigua, WI and Ascension Island. These projects have included regional surveys, studies of urban areas, historic land use studies, development of management plans, site assessments, mitigation studies, preservation and interpretation of sites. Mr. Dickinson has developed expertise in interpretation of aerial photography and development of site location models. He also has training in architectural history which supplements his archaeological experience. Mr. Dickinson is familiar with state and federal requirements for archaeological studies, as evidenced by his participation as principal investigator for the Historic Preservation Plan for the U.S. Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and for the U. S. Air Force at Antigua, WI and Ascension Island. He has participated in both the federal Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Florida Development of Regional Impact (DRI) processes, as well as U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permitting projects. Mr. Dickinson also has experience in heritage tourism, providing guided tours of archaeological, historical and natural sites, and was co-manager for three years of the Historic Haile Homestead, a restored 1855-56 plantation home. He currently serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Homestead. |

Lucy B. Wayne, Ph.D., RPA Vice President |

Dr. Wayne has extensive experience in cultural resource management studies throughout the southeastern U.S. She has served as co-investigator and principal author for projects in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Maryland, Alabama, the U. S. Virgin Islands, Antigua, WI and Ascension Island. Dr. Wayne has training in archival research, architectural history and preservation, and preservation law. She has conducted extensive historic research for cultural resource projects, and regularly documents and evaluates historic properties. Such documentation has included historic structure studies for the Florida Park Service at Fort George Island, Koreshan State Historic Site, Ravine Gardens State Park, Ormond House Historic Site and Tomoka Basin GeoPark. She also documented an historic African American cemetery in Glynn County, Georgia for a power plant expansion project and has evaluated historic structures for highway and development projects in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Antigua in the West Indies and Ascension Island in the South Atlantic. In addition to her architectural history and historic research qualifications, Dr. Wayne is a registered professional archaeologist with experience on both prehistoric and historic sites throughout the southeastern United States and several Caribbean islands. Archaeological projects have ranged from surveys to Phase III data recovery projects for both government and private clients, including several Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements, as well as Florida Developments of Regional Impact. As a result of her experience, Dr. Wayne is familiar with the requirements of both federal and state agencies concerning cultural resource documentation. She is also well-versed in the process of historical research in local and regional archives. Dr. Wayne has a special research interest in archaeological sites which contain historic structure remains. As an outgrowth of her experience and training, she has also been involved in heritage tourism and for three years co-managed the Historic Haile Homestead 1855-56 restored plantation home.

A. Ivan Batún-Alpuche, Ph.D., RPA Project Archaeologist |

Dr.Batún-Alpuche has extensive experience in archaeological survey and site excavation throughout Florida and Yucatan, Mexico. His research has focused on land use, subsistence and settlement patterns. He has extensive GIS experience, and has also worked on underwater projects in the Gulf of Mexico. Dr. Batún-Alpuche is a Native Maya from the Yucatan and has experience training Native Americans for the Forest Service (USDA) in basic archaeological techniques and management of their own cultural heritage. Mr. Batún-Alpuche’s responsibilities at SouthArc include direction of field projects, artifact analysis and preparation of technical reports. He also completes detailed faunal and ceramic analyses for selected projects. |
