SouthArc has created exhibits on careers in archaeology, African-American archaeology, and the archaeology of Alachua County for local public schools.  We have a long-term commitment to an Alachua County elementary school as part of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Partners in Education Program.  As part of this program, we regularly give talks on archaeology at local schools, have led school visits to archaeological projects, and have given tours of local historic properties.

Mitigation is designed to address the impacts of projects on a significant site.  It can take the form of additional documentation, large-scale data recovery excavations, or development of preservation plans for significant resources.

Phase III, Mitigation of Impacts

Documentation is designed to record specific information for archaeological, historical or architectural resources; this task includes completion of state site file forms, mapping, artifact analyses and photography.

Site Documentation

Historic structures are those buildings or structures over fifty years in age.  Such structures must be documented on state site file forms and assessed for significance in terms of their architectural or engineering qualities, their historic associations, their potential contribution to historic districts and their integrity of location, setting, design, materials, workmanship, association and feeling.

Historic Structures

Completion of literature reviews and historic research to obtain existing information on a property and write property histories.

Archival and Historical Research

Interpretation may include development of exhibits, presentations, or literature for education, public relations and marketing purposes.
